by Matthew Corgan

This article is for anyone interested in learning how to play Donkey Kong 1, 2, 3, Jr, and Donkey Kong Country Online and learning the controls. The games are listed below.

Donkey Kong: This was the game that started it all. Mario rescuing the Princess from Donkey Kong through jumping over barrels and climbing ladders. This all while avoiding flames shooting from an oil barrel. The A-button jumps like most other Nes games and the B-button has no use in this game. Hit right or left on the d-pad to move and up/down to climb a ladder. If you grab the hammer you can hit barrels coming at you.

On the very last stage walk or jump over the platform objects to release the platform Donkey Kong is on. Doing this allows Mario to rescue the Princess and you to enjoy a very cheesy 8-bit Nes ending. You play this great title online on Wii Shop for 500 Wii points or 5 dollar equivalent. That goes for most other popular Nes titles. That is how Nintendo revived all the Nes hits.

Donkey Kong 2: Donkey Kong 2 was referred to as Donkey Kong Jr. in North America.

Donkey Kong 3: Donkey Kong 3 is a title where you play as Mario who is an exterminator and shoots Donkey Kong with a poison. The directional pad moves Mario. Up makes him jump up a platform while down makes him drop a platform. It is very easy to learn and also very easy to die. This Donkey Kong title is not as popular as the others. It is a rare Nes cartridge find though.

Donkey Kong Jr.: In this very popular console and arcade game you play as Donkey Kong Jr. to rescue his father Donkey Kong from Mario. You must battle through stages to rescue the imprisoned Donkey Kong. The A-button makes Donkey Kong Jr. jump and the hitting right or left on the d-pad makes him move. The B-Button has no use in this game. This was Mario's leading Evil role in video game.

Donkey Kong Country: This was the first Donkey Kong game for Super Nintendo and actually had some controls worth learning. If you press A you can switch between Donkey Kong and Diddy, get off an animal, or switch between 1st and 2nd player. The B-button allows you to Jump and swim. The Y-button let you climb vines, roll, run, or pick up a barrel. If you hit down on the d-pad and Y you could do Donkey Kong's hand slap move.

Finally the d-pad controls the direction you are moving. Snes games on Wii Shop cost 800 Wii points or 8 dollar equivalent. You can find this game and many great other Snes hits on Wii Shop to play online. Enjoy playing classic Donkey Kong titles in the near future.
